Contributor's guide to TopXML
Why write for us?
TopXML prides on itself being a community website, where we value
any contribution an author wants to make to TopXML.
To show
appreciation for writing for TopXML, we'd like to publish your biography
and a promotional paragraph regarding your company/site or even a cause
(subject to inspection), including a graphic. None of these are
required, but its a way to show appreciation for the effort you have put
in.
Along with this, you will also receive a TopXML T-shirt!
This experience is a stepping stone for anyone looking to further their
career as a columnist or author because you'll potentially be getting
exposure to hundreds of thousands of people and many of these are from
publishers.
How do I get the ball rolling?
Submit a paragraph of the article idea via email to Trace
Wilson. Your
idea needs to be related to any XML subject, which could include how to's in
XSLT, the DOM, XHTML, Biztalk, programming, web services, how to integrate with eCommerce development,
etc.
The article
The article needs to be written in a Word 97/2000 document or
HTML. Don't worry about formatting, we will take care of
that.
Graphics should not be wider than 500 pixels, in a gif or JPG format. If your article has code, please comment it - this is the part
that people will mainly focus on for a technical article to get a complete
understanding of your ideas.
The length of the article is your choice, we appreciate long and short
articles. Even if you only want to explain a specific technique, this
is enough for an article.
Submission
Once you article is ready, email it to us. We will format and review
it, then forward it back to you for your approval/comments.
Payment
Currently we are not able to pay for article submissions. As
mentioned, to show our appreciation to your contribution to the TopXML
community, you will receive hopefully loads of recognition/promotion from the
appreciated readers, as well as a great TopXML T-shirt.
How else can I be involved with TopXML?
Besides writing articles, we also allow people to express their ideas in:
Subwebs/Products
A Subweb is a part of TopXML, which is XML related, that belongs to
the Subweb owner. If you have an idea for a product, we'll host this
too for you. Please see the subweb/products section for more details.
Downloads
If you have code that is useful, please submit this for the Downloads
section in a zip file, along with a readme.txt and a description. For more information, please see the
downloads
page.
Snippets
Got some great source code but don't have the time to write an
article? Submit it as a code
snippet here!
Email groups
We have pretty active Email groups - join in the fun and learning
experience.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Warm regards,
Trace Wilson
