The Server.Transfer Method

Introduction

The Server.Transfer method can be used to send information from asp page to another asp page. However you can only send ASP built-in objects and the asp error object from the first page. Any declared variables are not available in the second page. Application and Session variables are transferred too. Server.Transfer works similar to Response.Redirect however Response.Redirect only redirects the user and does not transfer any data. Note that you can’t use the Server.MapPath method with Server.Transfer.

Example (server_object_transfer_example.asp)

<%

            Session("name") = "Sonu Kapoor"

Response.Write "I am from page <b>ONE</b> and the value of the session variable name is: " &

Session("name") & "<br/>"

            Server.Transfer("server_object_transfer_second_example.asp")

%>

Example (server_object_transfer_second_example.asp)

<%

Response.Write "I am from page <b>TWO</b> and the value of the session variable name is: " &

Session("name") & "<br/>"

%>

Output
