BizTalk Utilities Adapter for XMS

The BizTalk Utilities Adapter for XMS allows BizTalk Server (2004 or 2006) to interact with Messaging based applications.

At its core it utilizes the IBM Message Services Client for .NET.

Message Service Clients for.NET provide an API called XMS that has the same set of interfaces as the Java Message Service (JMS) API.

XMS supports both the point-to-point and the publish/subscribe styles of messaging, and supports both synchronous and asynchronous message delivery.

Extending XMS

By default XMS supports the following IBM products:

  • A WebSphere MQ queue manager.
  • A WebSphere service integration bus.
  • A broker of WebSphere Business Integration Event Broker or WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker.

The Adapter extends this functionality by using Pluggable Providers.

A provider simply implements the XMS Interfaces and thus allows the XMS Adapter to communicate with other types of messaging systems.

The current set of providers supports the following:

  • JMS 1.1
  • WebSphere MQ
  • SMPP (SMS)

New providers can easily be added to the existing XMS Adapter.

Transaction Support

The Adapter fully supports BizTalk Server transactions. Please consider that some providers are limited and that the documentation should be reviewed for individual providers for Transaction Handling.

Enterprise Single Sign-On

Enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) provides services to enable single sign-on to end users for enterprise application integration (EAI) solutions. The SSO system maps Microsoft® Windows® accounts to back-end credentials. SSO simplifies the management of user IDs and passwords, both for users and administrators. It enables users to access back-end systems and applications by logging on only once to the Windows network.

All send and receive transports fully support Enterprise Single Sign-On.
