BizTalk and JMS (Java Messaging Service)

BizTalk Utilities supports the Active JMS API by providing an adapter that adds full data exchange capabilities with popular JMS Servers.

How it works

Demonstrated in the diagram below is the role of the BizTalk Utilities JMS Adapter components, as they relay data to and from Active JMS compliant servers.

The adapter accomplishes this by introducing two specialized components:

1.      First, the BizTalk Utilities JMSAIC application integration component, which is responsible for forwarding messages from the BizTalk Server to a JMS destination. You can set up multiple JMS Service Providers by creating separate Service Provider Definitions (or just “JMS Definitions”). These are created with the JMS Definition Wizard, and then later associated to the JMSAIC component using the JMS Properties tool. Below are some sample screens.

2.      Inbound communication is handled by the BizTalk Utilities JMS Receive Function. It is designed to retrieve messages from JMS Servers, and supports pre-processor and message selector settings that allow for customizable message filtering. BizTalk Utilities provides a separate JMS Receive Function Wizard that greatly simplifies the configuration of this component. See below for some sample screens.

Summary

The Active JMS platform represents an ever-growing family of contemporary Java Messaging Servers. By adding the BizTalk Utilities JMS adapter to your environment, you open the door to a significant amount of new integration opportunities and interchange partners.
