BizTalk and MOM Messaging

BizTalk Utilities provides a set of enterprise adapters that enable direct integration with popular MOM (messaging-oriented middleware) platforms.

How it works

As shown in the following illustration, separate adapter components handle incoming and outgoing communication with external or internal messaging products.

Each adapter typically consists of the following set of components:

1.      A definition wizard, which guides you through an easy-to-follow step-by-step process for creating provider definitions. Each definition represents a MOM connection point, configurable to how you plan to communicate with the messaging server or queue. Below are examples of user interfaces provided by definition wizards.

2.      An application integration component (AIC) specially designed to interface with a particular messaging product. The AIC is parameter-driven, meaning that once deployed, you associate a definition with the AIC in order to establish a communication channel with a specific MOM implementation. The simple dialog box below shows how easy a definition can be attached to the AIC.

3.      A receive function designed to retrieve and/or poll MOM data sources. Each adapter’s receive function handles all incoming data transmissions. In other words, the receive function can represent the “response” end of a typical request and response messaging exchange. Each receive function is accompanied by a corresponding configuration wizard. The following screens show typical wizard dialog forms.

Summary

Adapters have become a cornerstone technology in contemporary enterprise architectures. They not only enable integration between disparate platforms, they leverage the messaging model provided by contemporary solutions, such as BizTalk, IBM MQ Series and JMS servers. Building your environment with the quality adapter technology provided by BizTalk Utilities, is key to establishing a robust communications framework.
