BizTalk and IBM MQ Series

The BizTalk Utilities product suite includes an adapter specifically designed to interface with the IBM MQ Series platform.

How it works

The diagram below shows how BizTalk Utilities adapter components enable two-way communication with MQ Series:

The adapter accomplishes this by introducing two specialized components:

1.      The MQ Series AIC application integration component, capable of transmitting documents to an MQ Series Queue or Distribution List. This AIC is set up separately from MQ Series Definitions. The definitions are created using the MQ Series Definition Wizard. They are later associated with the AIC using a separate configuration utility. Below are some sample screen shots:

2.      Enabling BizTalk to accept information from MQ Series is the MQ Series Receive Function. Through the use of the MQ Series Receive Function Wizard, this component supports numerous configuration settings, including the polling of MQ Series Queues based on predetermined intervals (see the sample user interfaces below).

Summary

This sophisticated BizTalk Utilities adapter was engineered to take into account the many aspects related to the IBM MQ Series platform. By enabling direct integration and data transfer with MQ Series Queues and Distribution Lists, it bridges the Microsoft-IBM gap, opening up interchange opportunities with many contemporary partner platforms.
