BizTalk and SAP NET Connector

The BizTalk Utilities SAP Connector relies on the existence of client proxies generated using the Microsoft SAP .NET Connector. BizTalk Utilities leverages this Microsoft product in order to gain access to the SAP environment.

How it works

The Microsoft SAP .NET Connector plays a central role in the BizTalk Utilities integration environment, as illustrated in the diagram below.

Client proxies are generated from the SAP .NET Connector, which allows BizTalk Utilities components to directly interface with the connector’s API. This results in two way communication channels between BizTalk and SAP environments.

Setting up a proxy requires only a few of the simple steps. First, with the SAP .NET Connector installed, you open up Microsoft Visual Studio.

Next, you select the SAP Connector Class template.

This launches the SAP .NET Connector Wizard.

The following screen allows you to enter login parameters, and choose the Client Proxy object type.

After a few more screens in which you define proxy details, the Wizard goes to work, and auto-generates the client proxy.

Summary

This brief overview of BizTalk Utilities' relationship to the Microsoft SAP.NET Connector demonstrates just how simple the deployment and configuration of the BizTalk Utilities SAP Connector really is. Because it is tightly integrated with the Microsoft platform and therefore reuses existing APIs and libraries, it becomes a natural fit for any BizTalk solution requiring interoperability with SAP servers.
