BizTalk and SMTP
BizTalk
Utilities allows you to
extend the utilization of the native SMTP server by supplying features for the
transmission of documents via the SMTP protocol.
How it works
The diagram below explains typical
interaction scenarios between BizTalk
Utilities and the SMTP Server:
It accomplishes this by introducing two specialized components:
An
application integration component known as BTSUtils.SMTPAIC, which offers a
number of options for transmitting documents via SMTP. For example, documents
can be embedded within the message body or sent as attachments. Additionally,
XSLT style sheets can even be applied to further refine document content.
If you need for your BizTalk Solution to receive document
content via SMTP messages, you can also deploy the BizTalk
Utilities SMTP
Receive Function. It works with the native SMTP Server to accept message
submissions. Further, criteria can be applied so that the Receive Function only
executes under specific conditions. This can be an important performance
consideration when working with high message volumes. Examples of the dialog
screens for the SMTP Receive Function configuration Wizard are provided below:
Summary
By building upon the built-in SMTP
capabilities of BizTalk Server, BizTalk
Utilities positions SMTP as a viable communications
medium for the transport of documents.
