Summary This is a complete system that allows you to call COM components directly from a Web client over HTTP.

How's this different from SOAP? SOAP's real strength is interoperability. So if you don't care about interoperating different platforms, XIR is simpler, easily accomodates ADO Recordsets and XML content, and best of all, it's all written in Visual Basic.
