The content property (CSS Reference)

Introduction

The content property is used in conjunction with the before and after elements to specify the content which should appear either after or before the element. Several values like counter, URL, quote can be included.  Note that this property is not supported with IE. Netscape 6.0 however supports it.

Name:

attr(alt)

The alternative text is inserted as content.

close-quote

A closed quotation will be inserted.

counter(name)

The value of the counter is inserted as content.

counters(name, string)

All counters are inserted as content.

counters(name, string, list-style-type)

All counters are inserted with a rendered style.

no-close-quote

As the name already says, no closing quotations are inserted.

no-open-quote

No open quotations are inserted.

open-quote

An open quotation will be inserted.

string

A simple string enclosed with quotations will be inserted.

url()

An URL enclosed in quotations will be inserted.
