The unicode-bidi property (CSS Reference)

Introduction

The unicode-bidi property can be used to set the direction of the text. This property is used in conjunction with the direction property. This can be interesting for languages like Arabic or Chinese. These languages define the text direction from right to left.

Example

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"

     "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head>

<style type="text/css">

p.directionRTL

{

            direction: rtl;

            unicode-bidi: bidi-override;

}

p.directionLTR

{

            direction: ltr;

}

</style>

<title>unicode-bidi Demonstration</title>

</head>

<body>

<h1><p>unicode-bidi demonstration</p></h1>

<h2>

<p class="directionRTL">This text is displayed right to left</p>

<p class="directionLTR">This text is displayed left to right</p>

</h2>

</body>

</html>

Output

Values

Name:

Description:

bidi-override

This value has to be used if you want to allow a text direction for an inline-element or for a block-level.

embed

This value can be also used with inline-elements to set the embedding level bidirectional.

normal

The normal value can be used to allow implicit use of bidirectional.
