It appears that the Adapter or something is holding database connections open after the processing is completed. I have confirmed with our DBA that this error occurs when there are more than 100 connections open at one time. The send Port has Pooling set to TRUE and the Receive Location has a Connection Timeout of 30seconds. Is there somewhere else to look ?? I have a bit more information to provide on this issue. Can you tell me if we need to make a configuration change on our receive port so that we can get rid of these connections when they are not in use. Our Biztalk Database and Application server were rebooted this morning. After about 5 hours there are around 75 Biztalk connections on this Oracle database. See list below. These are inactive connections, however count toward the maximum. Hi Pieter, We are using version 4.0.5 and here is the Pooling configuration. What happens if we hit the Max Pool Size, does it start to reuse connections?? Maybe this is where I need to make the adjustment? Connect Lifetime 0 Decr Pool Size 1 Incr Pool Size 5 Max Pool Size 100 Min Pool Size 1 Pooling True thanks Karen

You max pool size is set to 100, you will need to reduce this. Also look at the Connection Lifetime setting and set this to a time value.

Hi Pieter, Can you give some more information around the Incr Pool Size and Decr Pool size properties? I think we want 1 pool of a maximum of 20 connections that get reused, however we are having trouble finding the optimal numbers to set in the following properties. Here are the current Connection Pooling properties and the default settings. I have made changes to the Connection Lifetime and set it to 20 and changed the Max connections to 20 as well. Connection Lifetime 0 DecrPoolSize 1 Incr Pool size 5 Max Pool Size 100 Min Pool size 1 Pooling true Connection Timeout 15 Any additioanl documentation on this would be great. thanks Karen

According to the Oracle Documentation it is the following: Decr Pool Size 1 Number of connections that are closed when an excessive amount of established connections are unused. Incr Pool Size 5 Number of new connections to be created when all connections in the pool are in use. This connection string attribute determines the number of new connections that are established when a pooled connection is requested, but no unused connections are available and Max Pool Size is not reached. If new connections have been created for a pool, the regulator thread skips a cycle and does not have an opportunity to close any connections for 6 minutes. Note, however, that some connections can be still be closed during this time if their lifetime has been exceeded.
