DOMElement Function getAttribute

PHP Version: (No version information might be only in CVS. I have used this function in PHP5)

DOM: W3C DOM Level 1

Description

This function returns the value of the attribute associated with the element.

Usage:

String DOMElement->getAttribute ( string name)

Returns the value of the attribute with name name for the current node. If no attribute with given name is found, an empty string is returned.

PHP Code:

<?php

$xmlstr = <<<XML

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<employee>

            <employeename id="myId">test</employeename>

            <employeeaddress>test123</employeeaddress>

            <SSN>12343456</SSN>

            <company>XYZ Corporation</company>

</employee>

XML;

$dom = new domDocument;

//load the XML string into the DOM

$dom->loadXML($xmlstr);

//retrieve yje first element with name employeename

$employeename = $dom->getElementsByTagName('employeename')->item(0);

//echo out the content

echo "<HTML>";

echo "<Head>";

echo "<title>Example of getAttribute </title>";

echo "<Head>";

echo "<body>";

echo "<B>";

//echo out the value of id attribute

echo "The value of id attribute is :".$employeename->getAttribute('id');

echo "</B>";

echo "<body>";

echo "<HTML>";

?>
