4 of 1205 | Troubleshooting BizTalk Server with SOAP Adapter Whitepaper - Microsoft® BizTalk® Server uses the SOAP adapter and orchestrations to receive and send Web service requests. The SOAP adapter enables orchestrations to be published as Web services and consume external Web services. Because configuring and/or using Web services can be complex, BizTalk Server handles many of these complexities on behalf of the user. Even so, there are still issues arising from time to time. This white paper is designed to highlight common issues and to provide guidance for how to resolve them.

7 of 1205 | BizTalk: Receiving Multi Part Messages - I have been working on a BizTalk project for a while now and after a bumpy start all has been going well. The current message that we are dealing with is the receipt and processing of a Purchase Order. The processing and mapping of the purchase order to the SAP orders schema went well and all I need to do was to receive the document from the customer. After a bit of a delay in getting an accurate sample message, I set to work on creating a process for receiving a PO from a Ponton server. On examining the sample message I found I was going to need to deal with receiving a Multi Part message.
So I looked at the SDK and searched online but found very little guidance. The samples and discussio......

10 of 1205 | Debatching Sql receive adapter resultsets - I spent Friday with a client advising them on some basic design principles, specifically around the use of the Sql receive adapter. 11 of 1205 | One more thing - When using the Sql adapter to receive batches of data, a couple of handy hints:
1. Use a stored procedure. It allows you more control and security, and abstracts the underlying table structure.

21 of 1205 | Iseries/AS400 DB2 - Working at a bank, I get to play with an iSeries a lot. I've been trying to build a data warehouse that uses day old data from the iseries and importing the data into a MS SQL database. I was able to do a data import using SSIS but I started to think about about how to do this in code. It was pretty easy!
First getting the data out of the iSeries/AS400. You have to install the latest IBM data provider. You get this when you install IBM's programmers toolkit. After you install the toolkit, add the reference to your project; IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries.
using IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries;

I can't remember the last time I actually played a game on the thing, but I can say that both The Wife and I use it daily. I'd even say she uses the Xbox 360 more than I do. She plays music from the Zune and iPod, she runs photo slideshows for the boys and when we have company. Recently we had a party for my Dad and the Xbox was showing slideshows of him over the years with his favorite music running in the background. My wife and I didn't think anything of it (it seems pretty obvious to us) but oddly enough it was the hit of the party. A half-dozen people were literally freaking out. The Xbox can do that? 24 of 1205 | Advice on using XamRibbon with Composite WPF - If, like me, you are interested in using all the new fangled controls produced by every man and his dog, you will probably have come across the Infragistics WPF control. My mission, that I stupidly accepted, was to update the TFS Sticky Buddy application with their XamRibbon and XamDockManager controls, and anything else I can stuff in there. The “anything else” I decided to use was the Composite WPF guidance. 25 of 1205 | Failed to load web service proxy - I started work on a solution new to me this morning. The solution was currently in production and working fine. I had opened it up because enhancements were required to consume new web methods from a third party.
After getting the source files from the source control repository I had the usual problem of missing references to sort out. I then noticed that the solution contained a web service project with two set of web references; one pointing to the live url of the 3rd party and another pointing to a mock service on local host. My initial thought was that this was unnecessary and would confuse matters - why not just have one set of web references and set the runtime target URL in the S......
26 of 1205 | Log Web Service Call - When troubleshooting calls made via the BizTalk SOAP adapter I often find myself wanting to check the data that was posted to the web service. Adding the following to a test asmx page does the trick:

Don't forget to grant access to the log_folder for the id that the web service runs under.

27 of 1205 | Stupid Lambda Tricks - Hi. I’m Arjun Bijanki, the test lead for the compiler front-end and Intellisense engine. One afternoon a few months ago, I was sitting in my office in building 41 thinking about test passes, when an animated discussion between a couple of colleagues spilled into the hallway and grabbed my attention. My recollection is that Boris Jabes, whom some of you might have seen deliver the “10 is the new 6” talk at PDC last week, was trying to convince the other colleague that you could write an automatic memoization function for C++0x lambdas.
I became intrigued.
For those that haven’t used C++0x lambdas before, the feature provides a way to define unnamed function objects. ......
28 of 1205 | Web service response -
I started developing a new BizTalk application today which must call an existing web service. Unfortunately I didn't have access to the web service from my test environment so I had to create a test stub. The web service method I needed accepted a string and returned an object containing an int and a bool. My first step was to examine the wsdl of the existing web service to get a good idea of the type my stub should be returning. Because the input / output parameters were simple it was only ten minutes or so before I was able to run my first test. I dropped a trigger file into a receive folder, this was picked up by my new orchestration and my test stub web service was called. Of course n......

33 of 1205 | Performance profiling your custom extensions - The Team Development Edition and Team Suite versions of Visual Studio 2008 comes with a performance profiling feature that can used to find bottlenecks in your custom extensions (tasks, data flow components, etc) for SSIS. Although having your extension assemblies in the GAC make profiling a little more involved, it can still be done with a few additional steps, and I’ve found it to be a very effective way to improve the performance of your code. In this post I’ll walk through how to use this tool on a custom Data Source Component (in this case, the source component for the SQL Data Services connectors on Codeplex). The basic steps are: Configure your extension for debugging Creat......

34 of 1205 | Composite WPF and Merged Dictionaries - If, like me, you like to have changeable resource files in your application. Wither it is for changing the Theme, or interchanging templates you will need to take special care when using the libraries. The new version of the TFS Sticky Buddy uses both! I am using the built in Infragistics theme system, and the first time you select a theme I am just adding a resource file that overrides the default: 1: Dim resourceDictionary As ResourceDictionary = ThemeManager.GetResourceSet(theme, ThemeManager.AllGroupingsLiteral)

37 of 1205 | Extending HAT Windows Data-Driven Adapter - The Hosted Application Toolkit (HAT) is a non-intrusive automation framework. With HAT, legacy systems (or not !) can be automated at the User Interface level without modifying the application itself. 41 of 1205 | Access Control Service - A Simple Scenario - To the already initiated claims disciples, the Access Control Service is a multi-tenant Resource STS. The behavior of each STS is determined by simple rules - the rules control how each STS transforms claims. To those not already initiated in the claims methodology, the previous definition may seem a bit obtuse. If that's the case, then consider a simple scenario: Background Let's say you work for a software vendor (Foo) that sells a web application (how about employee payroll management) to businesses. You have an existing on-premise offering and an existing install base. This version of your software integrates with customer identity providers (e.g. Active Directory, Tivoli, etc.). C......

Now we need the exact same functionality in WPF and Silverlight, so calling it .WPF doe......

45 of 1205 | Debugging in BizTalk - I recently opened a ticket with Microsoft due to a connectivity issue with a customer. The problem was ultimatly resolved by turning off the message chunking feature in the HTTP adapter configuration. It turns out that HTTP chunking is a HTTP 1.1 version feature and our customers servers still use HTTP 1.0.
While trying to resolve this issue the Microsoft technician asked me to add some XML to the BizTalk configuration file. The XML turns on the .Net Tracing feature that is built into the System.Net, System.Net.HttpListener, System.Net.Sockets and System.Net.Cache framework code. By adding the XML a file is generated in the same folder as the configuration file. The debug information ......
