Overview

In order for XmlDocument objects to share a NameTable, they must be created within the same implementation context. The XmlImplementation class can be used to establish this context.

Example (VB.NET): How to compare two XmlElement nodes from different XmlDocument objects that share the same NameTable.

In this example, we create two instances of the XmlDocument class using the XmlImplementation.CreateDocument method. We then create an XmlElement node for each document, assign it an InnerText value, and then compare these values.

        Dim objXmlImplementation As New System.Xml.XmlImplementation

        Dim objDocument1 As System.Xml.XmlDocument

        Dim objDocument2 As System.Xml.XmlDocument

        Dim objXmlElement1 As System.Xml.XmlElement

        Dim objXmlElement2 As System.Xml.XmlElement

        objDocument1 = objXmlImplementation.CreateDocument()

        objDocument2 = objXmlImplementation.CreateDocument()

        objXmlElement1 = objDocument1.CreateElement("node1")

        objXmlElement1.InnerText = "Testing"

        objXmlElement2 = objDocument2.CreateElement("node2")

        objXmlElement2.InnerText = "Testing"

        If (objXmlElement1.InnerText = objXmlElement2.InnerText) Then

            TextBox1.Text = "The nodes match."

        End If
