Subscriber Identity Modules, and Why They Matter

The SIM Potential

Making use of the SIM can be seen as an inevitable destination for secure electronic commerce from user to business - without the SIM, all contact is only with a handset, not a subscriber. It's a great shame that the current version of WML doesn't contain the facility for interrogating the SIM, and we should look to future versions of WMLScript to provide that functionality if we are going to conduct business with people rather than their phones.

With the SIM we can provide true point-to-point encryption (even SIM to smart card, in the case of Mondex currency transfers), and users will continue to consider their SIM to be their identity in an increasingly digital environment.
