The OnSelect Event (XHTML Reference)

Introduction

The OnSelect event is called whenever the user selects a text in a textfield or a textarea. This event is often used in forums when user A quotes user B. The following example shows the usage of the event.

Example

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"

     "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head>

<script type="text/javascript">

function GetSelectedValue()

{

            var strSelectedText = document.selection.createRange().text;

            document.myform.MyField.value = strSelectedText;

}

</script>

<title>OnSelect Demonstration</title>

</head>

<body>

<form name="myform">

Firs Name:<br/>

<input type="textfield" name="firstname" onselect="javascript:GetSelectedValue();"/><br/>

Selected Value from the above textfield:<br/>

<input type="textfield" name="MyField" /><br/>

</form>

</body>

</html>
