The <head> Tag (XHTML Reference)
Introduction
The <head> can be used to store information about the
document, which isn’t displayed to the user. This tag is usually inserted right
after the <html> tag. It can contain useful information like the author,
creation date or the copyright statement. Furthermore you can store keywords in
that section so that search engines like google or yahoo will find the document
faster. Following tags can be used in the <head> tag: <base>,
<link>, <meta>, <script>, <style>, and <title>.
