The <input> Tag (XHTML Reference)
Introduction
The <input> tag can be used for several purposes.
However the main usage was to provide a textbox for the user so that he can
enter some data, which is then send to the server. But it is also possible to
define buttons and images with buttons. All you have to change is the value of
the type attribute.
Example
<input type="text" name="textfield"
value="My Text Field" /><br/><br/>
List of content-types which the server will accept for
file upload.
accesskey
Defines an alphabet for the keyboard shortcut. You can use
ALT + alphabet
align
Aligns the input field with the following options:
top
middle
bottom
left
center
right
alt
Specifies an alternative text if the element is not
display able.
checked
If used with the type=”radio” or type=”checkbox” then it
appears as selected.
disabled
Disables the element.
ismap
This is an empty attribute and is used for a server-side
handling. That means that whenever the user clicks on the image (for example
through a link) then the coordinates are being send to the server through the
URL like used in get methods.
maxlength
Defines the maximum length of the text in a textfield.
name
Specifies the name of the element.
readonly
Specifies the element to be readonly. The element can not
be modified.
size
Specifies the size (widthwise) of the element.
src
Specifies the source of the file, when used with
type=”image”.
tabindex
Specifies the tabbing order of the element. You have to
specify the number between 0-32767.
type
Specifies the type of the element with one of the
following options:
Text
Password
Checkbox
Radio
Submit
Reset
File
Hidden
Image
Button
usemap
This attribute can be used to apply an image map to the image. For more details
see the map tag.
