The <optgroup> Tag (XHTML Reference)

Introduction

The <optgroup> tag is used in conjunction with the <select> tag and it always resides nested in it. The main purpose of this tag is to create a drop down list with titles. If you don’t use this tag, then you will see a list without any headlines.

Example

<select name="Technologies">

 <optgroup label=".NET">

  <option label="ASP.NET">ASP.NET</option>

  <option label="C#">C#</option>

  <option label="VB.NET">VB.NET</option>

 </optgroup>

 <optgroup label="XML">

  <option label="XPath">XPath</option>

  <option label="XSL">XSL</option>

  <option label="XQuery">XQuery</option>

 </optgroup>

 <optgroup label="XHTML">

  <option label="Tag a">Tag a</option>

  <option label="Tag br">Tag br</option>

  <option label="Tag optgroup">Tag optgroup</option>

 </optgroup>

</select>
